How to export your IMDb ratings and watchlist
Updated · By Sameer Sitre, who makes Trovie
IMDb offers two routes. A data request emails you everything at once; exporting a single list is quicker if you only want one.
Steps
Go to www.imdb.com/registration/data-requests
- Sign in to imdb.com, then open Account Settings and choose “Request My Data”.
- Choose “Submit Request” in the popup.
- Confirm from the email IMDb sends you.
- Wait about half an hour for a second email with your download link.
- Download the ZIP. Do not unzip it.
What is in the file
- The archive is called “All Data Categories” and contains your ratings, your watchlist and your lists.
- If you would rather not wait: open your Ratings or Watchlist on imdb.com, use the ⋮ menu and choose Export. That gives a single CSV, and Trovie reads it just as well.
- IMDb does not include your written reviews in any export, so there is nothing to bring across.
- Every row carries an IMDb ID, so nothing has to be matched by name.
If it will not import
- Still stuck, or a file this page does not describe? Send it to our team from the import screen and it is imported within 3 business days.
Questions
How long does an IMDb data request take?
About half an hour after you confirm it from IMDb’s email. Exporting a single Ratings or Watchlist CSV from the ⋮ menu is immediate.
Are my IMDb reviews included?
No. IMDb does not include written reviews in any export, so there is nothing to bring across.
Bring it to Trovie
Upload the file on the import page and Trovie reads it, shows you what it found, and asks about anything it cannot match on its own. Nothing you already have is overwritten, and you can undo the whole import for 7 days.
