How to export your Letterboxd diary and watchlist

Updated · By Sameer Sitre, who makes Trovie

Letterboxd exports your account as a ZIP of CSV files — your diary, your ratings, your reviews, your watchlist and your lists.

Steps

Go to letterboxd.com/settings/data/

  1. Sign in to letterboxd.com in a browser.
  2. Open Settings, then Data.
  3. Choose “Export your data”, then “Export Data” in the popup.
  4. Download the ZIP. Do not unzip it.

What is in the file

Matching your titles

Letterboxd files identify a film only by its name and year — no IDs. Nearly all of them match on that alone, but remakes and films that share a title need you to pick which one you meant. Trovie asks rather than guessing, and tells you how many it left out.

Questions

How do my Letterboxd star ratings convert?

Doubled onto Trovie’s 1–10 scale: 4½ stars becomes 9, 3 stars becomes 6.

Can I track TV shows too once I have moved?

Yes. Trovie tracks series episode by episode — tick them off, mark a season, and see what is up next — alongside your films.

Bring it to Trovie

Upload the file on the import page and Trovie reads it, shows you what it found, and asks about anything it cannot match on its own. Nothing you already have is overwritten, and you can undo the whole import for 7 days.
