How to export your Simkl data
Updated · By Sameer Sitre, who makes Trovie
Simkl lets you download a backup of your account. The JSON version carries every episode you have watched, so your progress comes across exactly.
Steps
Go to simkl.com/apps/backup/
- Sign in to simkl.com in a browser.
- Open Apps, then Export, then Backup.
- Choose “Download Backup” and save the file (SimklBackup.json).
- Upload it on Trovie’s import page.
What is in the file
- The JSON backup carries every episode you have watched. The simpler CSV backup works too, but it only records the last episode of each show.
- Shows you dropped or put on hold are listed in the import summary rather than marked as watched.
- Every title carries IDs, so nothing has to be matched by name.
If it will not import
- Still stuck, or a file this page does not describe? Send it to our team from the import screen and it is imported within 3 business days.
Questions
Should I use Simkl’s JSON or CSV backup?
The JSON one. It lists every episode you have watched; the CSV keeps only the last episode of each show, so Trovie could not tell which earlier ones you saw.
Bring it to Trovie
Upload the file on the import page and Trovie reads it, shows you what it found, and asks about anything it cannot match on its own. Nothing you already have is overwritten, and you can undo the whole import for 7 days.
