How to find your TV Time export and import it
Updated · By Sameer Sitre, who makes Trovie
TV Time shut down on 15 July 2026 and deleted every account, so a new export can no longer be requested. If you asked for your data before then, or ran the TV Time Out or TV Time Liberator browser extension, the file you got still works — this guide is about finding it.
Steps
- Search the email account you used for TV Time for “gdpr-data” — the data export arrived by email.
- Look in the Downloads folder of the computer or phone you used then, for gdpr-data.zip (older ones: tv-time-personal-data.zip), tvtime-export-….zip (TV Time Out) or tv-time-export.zip (TV Time Liberator).
- Keep the ZIP as it is — do not unzip it. Your episodes, films and ratings are in different files inside it.
- Open trovie.co/import on that computer, sign in with Google and choose TV Time — or use Import your history on your Profile in the app, once the file is on your phone.
What is in the file
- Trovie brings in your watched episodes and films with the dates you watched them, the shows and films you saved for later, and your film ratings.
- Favourites, rewatches, specials, episode ratings, stopped shows and custom lists are listed in the import summary but not brought in.
- TV Time Out saves tvtime-series-….json and tvtime-movies-….json, or a tvtime-export ZIP holding them. TV Time Liberator saves tv-time-export.zip, holding shows.json, movies.json and activity_history.csv.
- The GDPR archive also holds sign-in tokens and IP addresses. Trovie never opens those files.
Matching your titles
The shows in a TV Time export carry IDs, so they match exactly. The films in TV Time’s own data export carry only a name and sometimes a year, so a few — remakes especially — need you to say which one you meant. Trovie asks rather than guessing.
If it will not import
- Password-protected ZIP? Unzip it and zip the folder again without a password. Or upload tracking-prod-records-v2.csv on its own — that brings your shows and episodes, but not your films.
- Two loose TV Time Out files? Import the series file first, then the movies file.
- No file anywhere? Then there is nothing left to import — TV Time deleted its copy. You can still rebuild quickly: marking a whole season watched is one tap.
- Still stuck, or a file this page does not describe? Send it to our team from the import screen and it is imported within 3 business days.
Questions
Can I still request my data from TV Time?
No. TV Time announced its shutdown on 2 July 2026 and deleted all accounts on 15 July, so an export can no longer be requested. A file downloaded before then still works.
Is it easier to import on a computer or a phone?
Usually a computer: the export arrived by email, so it is often already there. The web importer at trovie.co/import and the app’s importer do the same thing, and your history is waiting in the app either way.
Bring it to Trovie
Upload the file on the import page and Trovie reads it, shows you what it found, and asks about anything it cannot match on its own. Nothing you already have is overwritten, and you can undo the whole import for 7 days.
