How to export your Trakt data
Updated · By Sameer Sitre, who makes Trovie
Trakt lets every account export its data as a ZIP of JSON files. It is free — the export does not need VIP, although the CSV version does.
Steps
Go to app.trakt.tv/settings/data
- Sign in to trakt.tv in a browser.
- Open Settings, then Data.
- Under “Raw Export”, choose “Export now”.
- Wait for the email with your download link — large libraries take a few minutes.
- Download the ZIP. Do not unzip it.
What is in the file
- The ZIP holds your watched movies and shows, your ratings, your watchlist and your personal lists.
- Trakt has used the same catalogue as Trovie since 2023, so your episode numbering carries across exactly.
- Use the JSON export rather than the CSV one: Trakt’s CSV history dropped its external IDs in 2025, which makes every title a guess.
If it will not import
- Still stuck, or a file this page does not describe? Send it to our team from the import screen and it is imported within 3 business days.
Questions
Do I need Trakt VIP to export my data?
No. The JSON export (Settings → Data → Raw Export) is free; only the CSV version needs VIP — and the JSON one is the better file to import anyway.
Will my episode numbering match in Trovie?
Yes. Trakt has used the same catalogue as Trovie since 2023, so seasons and episodes line up exactly.
Bring it to Trovie
Upload the file on the import page and Trovie reads it, shows you what it found, and asks about anything it cannot match on its own. Nothing you already have is overwritten, and you can undo the whole import for 7 days.
